MERIDIANS &

ACUPOINTS

Acupoints and meridians are foundational concepts in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), forming a holistic framework for understanding and addressing various health issues. This system is based on the principle of qi, or vital energy, which is believed to flow through specific pathways called meridians.

Meridians are the foundation upon which this system rests. They are energetic pathways that run throughout the body, acting as channels for the flow of qi. There are 12 main meridians, each associated with a particular organ or organ system. These meridians create a complex network that connects different parts of the body, allowing for communication between organ systems and facilitating the distribution of qi to all areas of the body. In addition to the 12 main meridians, there are 8 extraordinary meridians that serve unique functions. These extraordinary meridians include the Governing Vessel and the Conception Vessel, which run along the body's midline, as well as the Yin Wei, Yang Wei, Yin Qiao, Yang Qiao, Du Mai, and Ren Mai. The extraordinary meridians are thought to regulate the overall flow of energy and can store qi and blood, playing a crucial role in maintaining balance and harmony within the body.

Acupoints are specific locations along these meridians where qi can be accessed and manipulated. They are considered the entry points into the meridian system, allowing practitioners to influence the flow of energy. Each acupoint has unique properties and therapeutic effects, making them essential in practices like acupuncture and acupressure.
